SAVE YOUR LIPS

The Sun Emits UV Radiation

  • UVA

    • UVA rays penetrate to the DEEPEST LAYERS of your skin, causing aging, sagging, and spotting.
    • We receive 10X the exposure to UVA rays than UVB.
    • UVA radiation accounts for 95% of the radiation that reaches the surface of the earth.
    • Unlike UVB rays, UVA rays hit us in a STEADY, CONSISTENT stream during each day.
    • 10AM to 4PM are the most critical hours for sun protection.
  • UVB

    • UVB rays penetrate to the TOP LAYERS of your skin, causing burning.
    • Window glass will block UVB radiation, but it won’t block UVA radiation.
    • UVB radiation is strongest between April to June
    • VARY IN INTENSITY depends on time of the day.
    • 10AM to 4PM is when we are hit with the most UVB radiation.

Only ONE-THIRD of UVB rays come from direct sunlight. The other TWO-THIRDS are reflected from the sky. On a highly overcast day ONLY 40% of harmful rays are blocked by clouds.

Why Use Lip Balm?

Often overlooked before it’s too late, your lips contain very little melanin— the natural skin pigment that blocks the sun’s rays. Sun Shades Lip Balm offers outstanding protection from the elements for your lips.

WORRY FREE PROTECTION

Sun Shades is a complete line of protection from the harmful rays of the sun. Our sunscreens, lip balms, and lotion have all the essential ingredients necessary to keep your family safe and provide worry–free fun in the sun.

BEFORE ACTIVITY

  • Apply sunscreen generously 30 minutes before going outdoors. This will give your skin enough time to absorb the sunscreen.
  • Sunscreen must be applied correctly. Avoid rubbing the cream in so much that it becomes thin and less effective.
  • Apply sunscreen to all bare areas of your skin. Ask someone to help you rub in sunscreen to areas that are hard to reach, like your back.

DURING ACTIVITY

  • Reapply sunscreen at least every two hours to remain protected, or immediately after swimming or excessively sweating.
  • Wear a hat to help deflect harmful radiation and apply SPF 15+ lip balm to protect your lips.
  • When possible, stay in the shade between 10am and 4pm to avoid direct exposure to the strongest rays.
